Dancing for Birth

Dancing for Birth TM Classes support pregnant mamas by helping them build endurance, gain strength, increase flexibility and prepare for an active and empowering birth experience.These classes are part movement, part child- birth education and wonderful for all women. No prior dance experience is required. Pregnant and postpartum mamas will experience movement inspired by women’s dance from around the world. Belly dance, African dance and Latin dance all provide for the joyful expression of your amazing mama body and allow you to make these beautiful movement your own.
Cost: $50/series. BABS Activity Pass does not apply.
Loving Touch Infant Massage Class 
Mondays 11-12pm
July 15, September 16, November 18
In this supportive, group environment, parents can learn how to share massage and gentle touch to help maximize their baby’s physical, emotional and social development. Participants will learn how to ‘play’ with and soothe their newborn through pre-crawling babies. Topics include, but are not limited to: basic massage techniques, reflexology, acupressure, and tummy time.
These office hours will be facilitated by licensed massage therapists with a wide range of skills and techniques used in massage or treatment. Registration required- please call, stop in or email to preregister; Minimum to hold workshop is 3, maximum is 5. Cost is $15
Coping with Confidence
Thursdays 7:00-8:00pm

Working through the stages of labor feeling supported and confident is the goal of this workshop. During this workshop, we will be talking about what it means to “cope with confidence” during the stages of labor, how a partner can support the laboring woman, and you will have an opportunity to practice some hands-on techniques to support a woman’s needs.
You will have a chance to learn about various positions, breathing styles, relaxation techniques and massage. Combining two or more of these relaxation methods will provide a laboring woman with what she needs.
Cost: $10/person or couple

Sibling Class

Expecting a baby? This class will give your older child(ren) an opportunity to learn about your baby’s development, how Mommy might feel as she approaches her due date and begins labor, ways s/he can help with the baby, and what a newborn needs in the early months. Your child(ren) will listen to stories, sing songs, dress and diaper a baby doll or stuffed animal, and end with a treat and an art project. This class is appropriate for children ages 2-6. Please preregister and bring your child’s favorite stuffed animal or doll. Cost $10/family
Baby Basics

Becoming a new parent is an enjoyable, yet exhausting experience. Also known as “The Fourth Trimester,” this adjustment period takes a great amount of patience, support, intuition, and experimentation (every baby is unique!). This three-hour workshop, led by Lindsey Rupp, CD(DONA), CLS, PCD(DONA), was created to help new and expectant parents better understand the basics of baby care. Topics include:
- The immediate postpartum period
- Carseat safety
- Baby’s homecoming
- Newborn characteristics
- Comforting baby
- Baby carriers
- Diaper changing, bathing, and basic baby care
- Safe sleep
This class is designed for families not otherwise taking a childbirth education series or enrolled in a 1-day intensive. Cost is based on income ($20-$60).
Dogs & Storks® 
Date: Sunday, July 14 1:00-2:00pm
Dogs & Storks® is an international program that helps expecting families with dogs get ready for life with baby. We offer positive, practical, and fun solutions to challenges that often arise when a family with a dog adds a new baby to the household. Topics covered include common questions parents have about their dog & pregnancy/newborns, what to do with your dog to prepare for baby in the house, ways to introduce dog to baby, and the first days/weeks in the home with baby and dog. Handouts, practice materials, and surprises included in this interactive and fun seminar.
Snacks will be provided in between classes by BLU Boy Chocolates, along with prizes for games played during the session.
Instructor is Madalyn Moorman; she worked as a professional pet dog training instructor for over a decade, and counting. She obtained her CPDT-KA (Certified Professional Dog Trainer- Knowledge Assessed) title in March of 2004, and gained the higher level of CPDT-KSA (Knowledge & Skills Assessed) in 2012. Both titles are regulated by the CCPDT (Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers: www.ccpdt.org). She is also a member of Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT: www.apdt.com). Her education includes college degrees from Indiana University in Animal Behavior (Area Certificate- AC) and Psychology (Bachelor of the Arts- BA), as well as frequent continuing education seminars and programs covering many aspects of pet dog training and canine behavior. Madalyn’s extensive experience working with dogs since 1995 has included veterinary technician & kennel positions, as well as pet supply and food education/sales.
Fee $20-$30 sliding scale (if you register for both Dogs & Storks and Dog & Baby Connection, you will receive a $10 discount off total registration cost). Please call to register.
Dog & Baby Connection™
Date: Sunday, July 14 2:30-3:30pm
The Dog & Baby Connection™ is an International program that helps families with dogs and toddler-age children create safety and harmony at home. We offer positive, practical, and fun solutions to challenges that often arise in families with dogs during your child’s early development years. Topics include ways to include the dog and baby in daily activities, using “guided touch”, how to read your dog’s subtle body language for stress, setting up “success stations”, learning about “grumble” and “growl” zones, how to create a successful bond and relationship with your baby and dog.
Anyone who is expecting a baby or toddler is highly encouraged to take BOTH Dogs & Storks AND Dog & Baby Connection. You will learn incredibly valuable information that can benefit you for years and make your family happy and safe!

Exploring Birth Work

Think you’re interested in becoming a doula, but want to know more before you commit to the training workshop? Interested in learning about other ways to work with pregnant women and new families as well? This workshop will focus on what it’s like to be a birth doula, including some practical labor support and birth information. We will also explore the work of a postpartum doula and lactation consultant, and discuss the way the birth and postpartum support teams work together in Bloomington. Taught by Molly Mendota. Exploring Birth Options

You’re pregnant, or considering a pregnancy. Who will be your midwife or doctor? Where will your baby be born? What kind of support and information will you need before, during, and after the birth? Perhaps you are considering changing your chosen care provider or birth location. This class is designed to give parents-to-be the resources they need to make informed decisions throughout the childbearing year. First-time and experienced parents welcome. This class will be adapted to the needs of the participants.

Weave Retreat

One day retreat! Experience the Weave of Motherhood in one inspiring afternoon.
Through this group you have the opportunity to take a step back, regroup, and re-emerge with new capacities for love and self-awareness. Through connection, introspection and creative expression you can strengthen and elicit respect for and a deeper understanding of your work of motherhood.

Helping and Healing with Dr. Mandy Smith

Pregnant? Do you have aches and pains? Looking for a way to ease those discomforts? There is a way!
Come spend time at BABS learning ways to handle pregnancy-related pain though body work. Dr. Mandy Smith will be leading a discussion, answering questions and performing mini-treatments.
This program is a free program, with preregistration requested in order to plan accordingly.
Dr. Mandy Smith DC, MSc has become an expert in musculoskeletal care and treats all activity levels as well as all ages. Dr. Smith specializes in working with athletes, women with pregnancy-related pain and pediatrics. She is full body certified in Active Release Technique.
Dr. Smith was born and raised in Washington, Indiana where her love of sports first began. As a volleyball and basketball player, she was able to see first-hand how injuries can affect an athlete’s life. After high school, Dr. Smith attended Indiana State University where she received a bachelor’s degree in Life Science. She went on to attend chiropractic school at Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis Missouri where she received not only her Doctorate in Chiropractic but also a Master’s in Sports Science and Rehabilitation and her specialization in Pregnancy-related back pain.
